OUR pROCESS
Sewing!
We apply lots of sewing in our work; we use our two industrial machines, one small home machine, and our handsewing techniques. Our primary thread is an industrial-strength thread primarily used on sewing parachutes and similar objects, though we have found that this thread works best for making our products durable and long-lasting. We always double-check our stitching when we sew, to ensure that we didn’t miss our mark and that our sewing will hold strong for many years to come!
(see the picture to the right? we were double-checking our stitching!)
Gluing!
We only apply gluing along with sewing; never do we use glue in replacement of sewing. However, we do apply many types of glue in our work, depending on where we need to have a part of our product hold solid for many years. The main areas you may see our glue-work is in the headpiece, feetpaws, and claws.
No Paint!
We don’t use airbrushing here, it’s just a preference. Which is a bonus for you; you don’t have to worry about the touch-ups on painting, or avoiding the rain, or being super careful with cleaning.
But that means we sew in -everything-!! The tiniest little spots and details and markings all get sewn in… and don’t you worry, we will make sure that those details will stay in for good.
Materials!
We always get samples of our materials when we can and check if it will hold up to the many years we expect our products to have a lifespan of. If a material seems uncertain, then we return it/get rid of it. Anything we use for our products or on our products are always checked to make sure they meet our high-set standards.
Testing!
When we come up with something new, whether it is a pattern or a new way of making something, we always test it first. We ask a friend or Patron who already own a similar item from us, or we test it out ourselves. We make sure that our new concept will work out and hold up to our high-set standards. Even when we try out new materials, new products, or new ways of creating, we always test it out before applying it to a customer or pre-made product.
The DEtails
Headpiece
The Base
Our headpieces are made on resin bases (not 3D Printed, Not foam). We cushion the interior with foam and line everything that your skin touches with soft fabric for support and comfort. Then, we use foam to customize the exterior shape for each character. The overall structure of our headpieces when finished are very durable; we throw them around and drop them on the ground during our demonstrations at conventions.
A Fan & A Pocket, Free!
Inside of every head we make, there is a fan installed! You can choose to remove this option if you -really- want to, though we encourage you to try it out. It will help you stay cool, and you don’t always have to turn it on when you are wearing the costume. You will have a spandex-lycra pocket to go along with it, sewn into the back of the neck area. This pocket will allow you to put your battery safely in place while you are wearing the headpiece. You can put other things in this pocket as well; some people like to put their hotel keycard in there, for example.
Ventilation!
Because we use resin bases, the main structure is pretty hollow. This makes the airflow aplentyand gives you lots of ventilation. plus, when the species/character allows us to do so, we install extra vents in the nostrils (or anywhere else we can) for even more airflow!
Vision!
We always make room for glasses, if you wear them. If not, there is room just in case a friend wears your fursuit!
How about that Visibility? It is pretty high! We want to make sure you can see where you are going, and that you can see well! While our “Toony” and “Plush” styles have more visibility in comparision to the “Semi-Realistic” Style, we still make sure you have as much visibility as possible. To do this, we test out your headpiece eyesight range during the building process several times.
Cleaning, Upkeep, & lifespan!
we recommend wearing a balaclava to extend the lifespan, ease of wear, and cleanliness of the headpiece.
It's easy to wipe down and clean the head on the inside and outside, and not expensive to upkeep! we always will happily provide washing instructions for our costumes. The general lifespan of a headpiece can range anywhere from 3 years to 10 or more years, depending on how much you wear it and how well you take care of it.
Wearing the head!
To wear a headpiece from us, you can put in on and take it off all by yourself! There's a hidden zipper in the back of the head next to your neck pocket; this extends all the way up the back of the head to between the ears. Simply unzip, place your head inside, and zip up.
A breath of fresh air!
Once you are wearing the head, you can open the headpiece jaws very wide… I mean -VERY- wide! Don’t be afraid to break it, it’s quite durable. Now, your human face will show out of the mouth, but this is quite helpful; you can get a quick breath of air or take a sip of water without taking off the head. *
(See the picture to the right? say ‘Aaaaa’!)
Moving Jaw! Pose-able Ears! Follow-Me Eyes!
All of these things are included, free!
- A moving jaw is fun to talk with, make silly noises, bite a pizza prop, or simply use for more air and water breaks. We can remove this option and sculpt a non-moving jaw, if you should decide that a moving jaw isn’t for you.
- Pose-able ears are fun and convenient; pose your ears in different positions for a unique look or today’s current expression, or bend your ears down to fit into your travel case easier! We also can remove this option and sculpt solid foam ears, if you should decide that pose-able ears isn’t for you.
- Follow-me eyes are our standard for all styles of headpieces. They are called this because the eye seems to watch a person on the outside no matter where they are going; hence, the eyes are ‘following them’. We do not offer ‘flat eyes’ or other replacement styles at this time.
What else?
We put a lot of love, effort, and passion into our work. because we do so much, we didn’t list -everything- that we do on a headpiece alone. Not to mention, all the extra options you can add on to customize your personal fursuit! If you are interested in getting your own, check out our commissions on our “Quotes & Queue” page!
* If you opt for a non-Moving Jaw, this is no longer an option you can do in your headpiece.
Handpaws
we offer four types of handpaw styles when you are looking at a commission with us:
“Basic”, “Poofy”, “Squishy”, and “Plush”
It’s entirely your preference on overall appearance of your character, as well as movement capability, for which one you pick. *
”Basic” handpaws are very easy to wear and the most snugly fitting set. However, this pair of handpaws does not allow us to sew in pawpads, claws, or complex markings; it’s just fur. These are the easiest to move around and grab things with.
”Poofy” handpaws are a step above the “basic” pair. These handpaws still fit a bit more snugly to your hand, but with a bit more wiggle-room, which allows us to sew in any optional shiny fabric pawpads or claws you may want. These are definitely easier to move around and grab things with.
”Squishy” handpaws are our most popular option due to style; people love the feel and look of the soft, large paws! These hands are lined with spandex-lycra and stuffed with fiberfil for comfort and style, and also hold your hand in place well with just a bit of wiggle-room. Optional soft fabric pawpads or claws are available if you choose, These handpaws are able to move around, point, and grab things relatively decently with some practice, though opening doors is a bit of a challenge.
(see the lower picture to the right? An example of our “Squishy” style hands, showing the lining, soft pawpads, and hard claws!)
”Plush” handpaws are also a popular option due to the size and style; people love the feel and look of these large pillow paws! These hands are lined with spandex-lycra and stuffed with fiberfil for comfort and style; and include hidden wrist escapes so that you can easily slide out your hand for anything you may need to access or handle. With more then plenty of wiggle-room on the inside, optional soft fabric pawpads or claws are easily an option if you chooose. The fingers are not individually move-able, and good luck grabbing or picking up anything delicate… unless you slide your own hands out of the wrist escapes. Some people enjoy hiding their hotel keycards inside the palms for quick access!
* Certain handpaws may only be crafted for certain fursuit styles, and not crafted for others; this is due to our stylistic choices to ensure that the handpaws match with the overall design of the style of the fursuit. You may order a set of handpaws seperately if you desire a specific set to wear.
Handpaw Details
claws!
A popular choice, we often find ourselves installing and sewing in claws on most handpaws. We make our own soft fabric claws for some handpaw styles, and for resin-casted claws we order from DVC (Dream Vision Creations, a furry artist who we have supported since 2011). For either type of claw, we ensure that the back is soft to the touch and sealed off, so your finger is comfortable touching the claw for hours of wear. We also put a soft fabric ‘cuticle’ (flesh area before the claw comes out) around the base of the claws in a matching color to your pawpads (or nose/mouth if you do not have pawpads).
Sealed Entry!
All of our handpaws are sealed with a durable double layer of fabric at the wrist entry. This prevents stretching and fraying, so that your handpaws will last for many years to come!
Cleaning, Upkeep, & lifespan!
It's easy to disinfect and clean the handpaws and not expensive to upkeep! we always will happily provide washing instructions for our costumes. The general lifespan of a pair of handpaws can range anywhere from 2 years to 5 or more years, depending on how much you wear it and how well you take care of it. Most handpaws can be simply tossed into a washing machine! *
What Else?
We have made Hand-hooves (soft and click-clacky), webbed paws, long claw-based paws, and more styles too! Don’t be shy to share your unique creature with us to see if we can bring it to life. ”Digitigrade” looks more like ‘animal-like’ legs with 6 total individual pieces of padding. This padding is foam-sculpted, then lined with spandex-lycra; this makes for a smooth, comfortable fit for hours of wear followed by easy disinfecting and fast drying from the heated, sweaty experience. These padding pieces slide into pockets that are installed inside of the bodysuit, so they won’t slide around or away from you. When you are ready to do a deep clean, simply toss the padding into a washing machine!**
”Drop-crotch Digitigrade” looks more like rounded, cute ‘animal-like’ legs with 8 total individual pieces of padding. Six of these pieces are fiberfil stuffed, while the remaining two pieces are foam-sculpted; all pieces are lined with spandex-lycra. Similar to the “Digitigrade” padding, The Fiberfil padding makes a soft, comfortable fit for hours of wear followed by easy disinfecting and fast drying from the heated, sweaty experience.
